An integrated circuit (IC), sometimes called a chip or a microchip, is a group of transistors that are placed on silicon. When compared to standard circuits, which are made up of separate circuit components, an integrated circuit is too small. It is about the size of a fingernail. IC is a thin slice of semiconductor material, like crystalline silicon, called a semiconductor wafer, on which thousands or millions of tiny resistors, capacitors, and transistors are made.
There are different kinds of these, like programmable ICs, memory chips, logic ICs, power-management ICs, and interface ICs. Its job is to work at a small number of predetermined levels of signal amplitude. They work with “yes/no” or “on/off” switches called logic gates that change the way the circuit works. Digit ICs use binary data, which is an old computer standard. Binary data can only have the values “0” (low or no logic) and “1” (high or full logic).
Analog, or linear, ICs usually only have a few parts, so they are one of the few types of ICs. Most of the time, analog circuits are linked to devices that get signals from the outside world or send signals back to the outside world. Let’s look at a microphone as an example. A microphone turns varying vocal sounds into a varying voltage electrical signal. Then, these circuits change the signal in some useful way, like by making it louder or getting rid of the noise that isn’t wanted.
This is a type of Integrated Circuit that has both types of Integrated Circuit in it. So, you will now find these mixed ICs in systems that change analog data to digital data or digital data to analog data. The idea behind Mixed IC is to put both digital and analog parts on the same chip, which is a newer idea than IC itself. Mixed integrated circuits are things like clocks and other devices that measure time. Also, ICs are often put into groups that have nothing to do with whether they are digital or analog.
Integrated Circuits are combinational circuits that turn different input signals into a logical output. It can have between two and three inputs, but only one output. The Transistor-Transistor Logic (TTL) 7400 series Integrated Circuit and the CMOS 4000 series Integrated Circuit are two common examples. ICs 7408 is a TTL integrated circuit with four inputs and a gate. It comes in a Plastic Dual in Line Package.
Their name tells us what they do: they are parts of switches, or, in the language of circuits, they are used in “switching operations.” In an electric switch, a switch can be triggered by either stopping the flow of current or adding current that wasn’t there before. A switch is just a change in a given condition that can take two or more forms. Some electric fans and other things have settings for low, medium, and high. So the switches can be part of just one circuit or more than one.
